Physics

Why study Physics?

Physics is the study of how the Universe works; from the unfathomably small e.g. the interaction between two electrons, to the unfathomably large e.g. the interaction between two galaxies, and everything in between.

Physics includes the study of challenging, abstract concepts such as quantum theory and particle physics. It also covers ‘‘everyday’’ phenomena such as materials, motion, waves and electricity. It is a greatly valued A Level due to the high level of demand and academic rigour, transferable to many other areas and looked at extremely favourably by universities and employers.

Physics tests a wide range of skills and abilities to solve problems dealing with the physical world. It demonstrates an ability to think logically as well as a high degree of resilience due to the difficult nature of the course.

Where can Physics take me next?

Any course or employment would look favourably on a Physics A Level and it is particularly useful for anything in the area of STEM. Further study of mechanics, engineering, electronics and optics tends to require scholars to have an A Level in Physics as well as Maths.

Recent Destination for Longsands Physics Scholars:

  • University of Cambridge – Natural Sciences
  • University of Bristol – Physics with Astrophysics
