At Longsands, we firmly believe that scholar voice plays a vital role in shaping our community. We are proud to offer our Sixth Form scholars the opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities through our Sixth Form Scholar Leadership Team, empowering them to make a meaningful and lasting impact on Longsands Academy and Sixth Form life.
The Leadership Team has been established to ensure that Sixth Form scholars have a strong voice, providing opportunities to influence decision-making, contribute new ideas and help drive positive change. Members act as role models for younger scholars, demonstrating our values through their actions, commitment and leadership.
Each year, Sixth Form scholars can apply for the positions of Head Boy and Head Girl. Candidates take part in an application and interview process with the Principal and Sixth Form team, allowing them to showcase their leadership qualities, vision for the academy and Sixth Form, and commitment to serving the school community. Successful applicants become ambassadors, representing Longsands at a range of events and working closely with staff and fellow scholars.
The Head Boy and Head Girl lead the wider Scholar Council, which includes representatives from across main school year groups. Together, they provide a platform for scholars to share their views, discuss important issues and contribute ideas that enhance the educational experience for everyone. The Leadership Team plays an active role in academy life, helping to organise events, support charitable fundraising initiatives, promote community engagement and celebrate key achievements.
Through these leadership opportunities, scholars develop valuable skills including communication, teamwork, organisation, problem-solving and public speaking. They learn how to work collaboratively with staff and peers, represent the views of others and take responsibility for delivering projects that make a genuine difference.
The Sixth Form Scholar Leadership Team ensures that our scholars are not only heard but empowered to lead. By giving young people the opportunity to shape their environment and bring their ideas to life, we help them develop the confidence, resilience and leadership skills that will support them well beyond their time at Longsands.
