Online Learning – January, February & March 2021
Further to the government announcement that secondary schools in England will be closed (except to critical worker and vulnerable students) until at least the week beginning 8th March, please see below the arrangements at Longsands Academy.
All Covid-19 updates are added to the Covid-19 page of our website, it is worth checking this regularly to find the most up to date information.
The remote education we provide at Longsands will be as close as possible to any normal day in school. Our remote learning offer will be a combination of pre-recorded lessons, independent work and live lessons with the timetabled teacher delivering lesson content or instructions to students. Instructions for all lessons will be set on Doddle and live lessons will be delivered on Microsoft Teams.

For any technical or password issues please email email@example.com
Critical workers and vulnerable children
We are open to supervise the children of critical workers and vulnerable children. This provision is offered to the children of parents and carers who are critical workers or meet another critical criterion who are unable to work from home and/or unable to make other arrangements for their children so have no alternative but to attend school. Students attending school will be supervised by staff in following the remote learning offer. Places are booked by completing a form that is sent out on a weekly basis. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any queries about this provision.
Access to equipment and technology
We remain committed to ensuring every student has access to an electronic device so that they can continue to receive a high quality of education. We are acutely aware that remote learning places significant pressures on family access to IT, particularly where there are two or more siblings in the household. We do have a limited number of laptops available to loan to students to enable remote learning where this would otherwise be impossible. Please contact email@example.com to discuss your child(ren)’s situation further.
Free School Meals
Students who are eligible for Free School Meals will be offered support via vouchers. If you have any queries on this please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Safeguarding and wellbeing
We want to ensure that your child’s welfare and well-being is protected. Since March 2020, we have monitored an open email address – email@example.com for students, and parents and carers to contact us if they are anxious or worried during lockdown. We have a range of resources and advice to help support your wellbeing on our website, and our student support team remain ready and available to support you with your learning and your general progress
If you become aware of a safeguarding concern, please use one of the following resources for help:
