Examination Results 2022

2022 GCSE (Unvalidated)

These grades reflect the fact that GCSE Results continue to improve at Longsands Academy, with very positive attainment and progress figures. 

84.2% of Year 11 students were awarded at least a grade 4 (standard pass) in either English Language or Literature, and 83.6% in Maths. 78.9% achieved at least this standard in both subjects. 

65.4% of Year 11 students achieved at least a grade 5 (strong pass) in English and 61.7% in Maths. 53% achieved at least this standard in both subjects. 

81.5% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in Science.  

The percentage of Year 11 students achieving the national benchmark of 5 standard passes or more including English and Maths was 74.4%.   

Over 32.8% of all grades awarded were 9-7, with 134 of those securing a Grade 9. 

At grades 9-4, a number of subject areas achieved notable results including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Latin and Drama (100%), RE (93.3%), PE (83.3%), History (82.8%), Art (86.2%), Computer Science (80%), Media (82.6%), Maths (83.6%) and English Language (81.6%).  

2022 A Level (Unvalidated)

In 2022 students studying at Longsands Sixth Form, achieved an average grade of B- with 24.6% of all grades being either A* or A, and 75% of grades A*-C. These results clearly illustrate the academic strength of this cohort. 

75 students studied for one or more applied subjects, achieving an average grade of Distinction.

Every student was successful in securing a worthwhile post-18 destination, with 57.1% of students continuing their education at university, 29.2% at Russell Group institutions. A further 20.6% gained Apprenticeships or Degree Apprenticeships. The remainder are entering the workplace with a handful of students taking the opportunity for a Gap year.

 

Examination Results  2021

There were no examinations sat during the summer of 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Longsands Academy, in line with government and Ofqual guidelines, awarded Centre Assessed Grades to students who were due to sit both GCSE and A Level examinations.  The Centre Assessed Grades were arrived at following a rigorous process to assess the evidence available.  

2021 Centre Assessed Grades: GCSE 

86.6% of Year 11 students were awarded at least a grade 4 (standard pass) in English and 80.6% in Maths. 78.1% achieved at least this standard in both English and Maths. 

Over 30.9% of all grades awarded were 9-7, with 125 of those securing a Grade 9. 

These grades reflected the fact that GCSE Results continued to improve at Longsands Academy in 2019, with very positive attainment and progress figures. In 2019, 79.3% of Year 11 students achieved at least a grade 4 (standard pass) in English and 80.3% in Maths. 71.6% achieved at least this standard in both English and Maths. 80.1% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in Science.  The percentage of Year 11 students achieving the national benchmark of 5 standard passes or more including English and Maths was 66%.  

In 2019, over 24% of all GCSE grades were 9-7, with 80 of those securing a Grade 9; the highest grade possible in the new system for GCSEs. The school leadership team, subject leaders and teachers work hard to ensure that the curriculum has been delivered in a way that enables students to achieve the highest possible grades. A number of subject areas achieved notable results including Biology (98.8%, Grade 9-4), Chemistry (98.8%, Grade 9-4), Physics (98.8%, Grade 9-4), Latin (93.3% Grade 9-4), Music (93.3%, Grade 9-4), French (92.1%, Grade 9-4), German (80.5%, Grade 9-4), RE (77.5%, Grade 9-4), History (72.1%, Grade 9-4) and Geography (71.9%, Grade 9-4).  

2021 Centre Assessed Grades: A Level 

In 2021 students studying at Longsands Sixth Form the average grade awarded was B with 24.4% of all grades being either A* or A. These results clearly illustrate the academic strength of this cohort. 

87.7% of grades were A*-C, enabling every student to secure a worthwhile post-18 destination. with 60% of students continuing their education at university and 12% gaining Apprenticeships or Degree Apprenticeships. In particular, three students secured the highly competitive MASS IT Degree Apprenticeship.  The remainder are entering the workplace with a handful of students taking the opportunity for a Gap year, of which 92% of these intend to apply to university in 2022.

In 2021 Longsands Sixth Form continued to enjoy a high level of success; 95% of university applicants achieved their firm offer, going onto study at their desired destination. Of those candidates, two students secured places at the University of Cambridge and a further four achieved university places to study medicine. The University of Lincoln, Anglia Ruskin and Nottingham are the top three destinations for our students in 2021.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, students in years 13 and 11 were not able to sit their final examinations in the summer of 2020 and were awarded Centre Assessed Grades.

Examination Results and Progress 2019

GCSE Results continued to improve at Longsands Academy in 2019, with very positive attainment and progress figures.

A Progress 8 score of +0.15 was achieved by a substantial number of students making progress and achieving beyond national expectations based on Key Stage 2 results. In 2019, 79.3% (up by 3.3% from 76% in 2018) of Year 11 students achieved at least a grade 4 (standard pass) in English and 80.3% in Maths (up by 6.6% from 73.7% in 2018). 71.6% achieved at least this standard in both English and Maths (up by 5.4% on 2018). 80.1% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in Science (up by 8.9% from 57% in 2018).  In 2019, 47% (up by 2.1% from 59.9% in 2018) of Year 11 students achieved at least a grade 5 (strong pass) in English and 57% in Maths (up by 6.6% from 73.7% in 2018). 47% achieved at least this standard in both English and Maths (up by 5.5% on 2018). 62/1% of students achieved at least a grade 5 in Science (up by 11.8% from 50.4% in 2018).
