GCSE Examination Results 2020
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, students in years 13 and 11 were not able to sit their final examinations in the summer of 2020 and were awarded Centre Assessed Grades.
GCSE Examination Results and Progress 2019
GCSE Results continued to improve at Longsands Academy in 2019, with very positive attainment and progress figures.
A Progress 8 score of +0.15 was achieved by a substantial number of students making progress and achieving beyond national expectations based on Key Stage 2 results. In 2019, 79.3% (up by 3.3% from 76% in 2018) of Year 11 students achieved at least a grade 4 (standard pass) in English and 80.3% in Maths (up by 6.6% from 73.7% in 2018). 71.6% achieved at least this standard in both English and Maths (up by 5.4% on 2018). 80.1% of students achieved at least a grade 4 in Science (up by 8.9% from 57% in 2018). In 2019, 47% (up by 2.1% from 59.9% in 2018) of Year 11 students achieved at least a grade 5 (strong pass) in English and 57% in Maths (up by 6.6% from 73.7% in 2018). 47% achieved at least this standard in both English and Maths (up by 5.5% on 2018). 62/1% of students achieved at least a grade 5 in Science (up by 11.8% from 50.4% in 2018).

Over 24% of all GCSE grades were 9-7, with 80 of those securing a Grade 9; the highest grade possible in the new system for GCSEs. A number of subject areas achieved notable results including Biology (98.8%, Grade 9-4), Chemistry (98.8%, Grade 9-4), Physics (98.8%, Grade 9-4), Latin (93.3% Grade 9-4), Music (93.3%, Grade 9-4), French (92.1%, Grade 9-4), German (80.5%, Grade 9-4), RE (77.5%, Grade 9-4), History (72.1%, Grade 9-4) and Geography (71.9%, Grade 9-4) and reflecting the Academy’s commitment to provide a rigorous curriculum for all of our learners.
