Subject Specific Entry Requirements:  

Students wishing to study A Level Photography must have studied a Visual Arts course at GCSE and achieved grade 5 or above. It is not a requirement to have studied Photography at GCSE, although an interest and experience of taking photographs is necessary, whether using a camera or mobile phone. 

 

Why Study Photography?  

Through the study of Photography you will develop the skills of: 

  • Control and manipulation of media and techniques: to create technically and aesthetically skillful work.
  • Analytical and critical thinking: to appreciate the work of artists and photographers.
  • Creative problem-solving: by finding practical solutions to express ideas.
  • Presentation and communication: to share your observations, ideas and feelings through your work.

Where can Photography take me next?  

Illustration, Graphic Design, Advertising, Web and Multimedia Design, Interior Design, Fashion & Textile Design, Teaching, Architecture, Product Design, Art Therapy, Printmaking, Animation, Game Design, Interior and Stage Design, and any field where practical and creative skills are an important aspect of the work. 

Photography Enrichment and Super-Curricular  

There are trips to Cambridge and London for A Level students to visit Art Galleries and to sketch and photograph for project work. Within the department there is a dedicated Sixth Form Art Room, where students can work independently during their free periods.
