Why Study French?
At French A level you will learn about aspects of French culture and contemporary society, looking at diversity and the benefits it brings. You will study highlights of French-speaking artistic culture, including francophone music and cinema, and learn about political engagement and who wields political power in the French-speaking world.
How does current French cinema and music reflect the issues faced in contemporary French society? Have you ever considered how enjoying an authentic French film such as la Haine can provide an interesting way to learn about French, widen your vocabulary and develop a range of analytical and critical skills.
Les origines d’une société multiculturelle. Comment est-ce que la société française est-elle devenue multiculturelle? Would you like to find out more about the issues surrounding multiculturalism in French speaking countries? How successful is cultural diversity and what can be done to promote true integration – is there such a thing? Explore this through virtual and/or real-life encounters.
Where can French take me next?
Opportunities to study and work abroad are significant with your language skills. Single or Honours degree in French with History, Engineering or Business. Graduate programs offer training in both the UK and abroad including MI5, Hilton Group and L’Oréal. Teaching languages in schools or further education. Tourism and tour guide work, where you can interact with visitors from different countries. Translation and interpretation work, where you can convert written or spoken text into another language.
