Why Study Digital T Level?
T Levels are new courses which follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A levels. These 2-year courses, which launched September 2020, have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work, further training, including apprenticeships or higher education. T Levels offer students a mixture of classroom learning (80%) and ‘on-the-job’ experience (20%) during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days).
The Digital T-Level offers dedicated theory and practice which prepares you for your future career in the digital path of your choice. The core knowledge provides a broad understanding of the digital industry and covers the following topics: Business Context, Culture, Data, Digital Analysis, Digital Environments, Diversity and Inclusion, Learning, Legislation, Security, Testing, Tools.
The occupational specialism will allow students to develop the relevant skills in preparation for your career in the digital sector, and include:
- analysing a problem to define requirements and acceptance criteria aligned to user needs;
- designing, implementing, and testing software;
- creating solutions in a social and collaborative environment;
- discovering, evaluating, and applying reliable sources of knowledge;
- applying ethical principles and managing risks in line with legal and regulatory requirements when developing software.
During the 2-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of digital occupations including, but not restricted to:
- Web designer/developer
- Data analyst
- Cyber specialist
- Software developer
- Computer games developer/tester
- E-learning developer
- User experience (UX) designer

Computer Science – Enrichment and Super-Curricular
The department actively engages students in projects, competitions and visits including Digital Divide project, EGX Games Expo, Computing History Museum, University of Suffolk, FXP Games Competition. In addition, we have a dedicated Cyber Lab on-site that is for sixth form computer scientists, and we work with local businesses who deliver seminars and workshops with us including MASS Cyber Security Specialists and Lilac James Web Services.
